Surge City Now In Production!

Ok. officially 1 year since I last posted but I've been busy. Four years in the making and it's finally happening; Surge City is going to be an actual tv show and not just some pilot I did for Nickelodeon. I've pasted a bunch of clips from the webisodes to create this little demo.

We're voluntarily keeping the project jn secretly until the material is presentable, to avoid the big "influences" typical of series at this stage of its production. Just know that a new pilot is on track, FINALLY, and that it has changed a lot compared to the one we did in 2006.

Anyways, there are tons of people to thank but too many for me right now. I hope to be creating a bit of a production blog soon so you can be introduced to all that had a hand in the creation of this badboy. I figure I can start posting stuff as the shows start airing.

Happy November.

Back then, I used to work on this really cool show called Jimmy-Two Shoes. It was a hilarious conception of Sean Scott's and was really fun to work on. Here's a key pose I did.

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2007?!

A whole new round of Connor and Sparky has been ordered up by Cartoon Network and Teletoon and production should begin in only a matter of days after Season 2 finishes it's international rollout, But that’s not the only cartoon work that’s keeping me busy. I’m currently working on Wendell and Tom a new series from Kristen Takayoshi with Wildbrain (Higglytown Heroes, Yo Gabba Gabba) and Breakthrough Films (Atomic Betty). and I'm also working with Bejuba! Entertainment, and Studio B on Eloise and Friends for Nickelodeon and Treehouse. So far I’m under contract for three, but we’ll see if I can snag any more before all the first season slots are filled.

More of my recent cartoon work has cropped up on the web, this time legitimately. March Entertainment has a website called ILaugh that has started hosting episodes of TCASS – and And Now the Weather was selected to be among the first three offered to the steaming public. Split into two parts, you can find it and other Connor and Sparky adventures here and here. Merchandise tie-ins are promised in the near future and I’ll have to decide if I want my very own Tabitha plush toy to commemorate my time spent in Oaksdale.

After ten episodes for season 2 of Connor and Sparkys, and five Funny Faces it looks like I’m not with us anymore. I’ve joined forces with the evil doers. Turns out it’s not terrorists or Neo Cons or Muslim fascist-extremists or born-again Christian fundamentalists that are the problem. It’s the cartoons. We should have known all along. Shit, I grew up on Scooby-Doo and that shit fucked me up for life. It indoctrinated me into a subversive political mindset, and now I find myself a worker-bee peon, churning out more animated subversion to twist the intellects of a new generation of television-watching sloth-children. I might as well be strapping a bomb to my chest and taking a walk into a Wal-Mart.

Witness what just happened in Boston. One cartoon character lights up and flips morning commuters the bird, and the whole city grinds to a halt. Such is the might of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I shudder to think what could have gone down with a similar Adult Swim viral ad campaign for the Venture Bros. The entire state could have crumbled. And had it been a light-box advert for Robot Chicken placed in those tunnels and under those bridges? We’re talking about the complete dissolution of the United States of America.

Whimsical terrorism

Okay, technically, Robot Chicken is stop motion, but you get my meaning. Any sort of frame-by-frame animated illusion-of-movement technique may well spell disaster for the rest of western civilization. We can only be grateful that the National Film Board of Canada’s experiments with sand animation hit a wall. Their foolhardy dabbling with grainy forces beyond our comprehension may well have ended days long before the current crop of Christian soldiers had a chance to declare, “No, THIS is the end of days. Right now. This time for sure. We swear.”

As a further testament to my complicity in the cartoon insurgency, my Connor and Sparky episode, Bad Luck Day, is up for another award. This time it’s at SICAF 2007, the big animation festival in South Korea, and Season 2 didn't even come out yet. so Studio B cut a DVD of all my season 1 episodes for me, and now that I’ve finally seen it, I have to say this particular episode may be my favourite produced credit to date. It’s magnificently cruel, which is what all proper cartoons should be. But if you live in the Boston area, don’t expect it to air anytime soon. Some cartoons are so awesome, they may require the complete evacuation of the city just in case one of the characters reaches critical mass.

Something I made last night.

I would die to do a series starring literally every single character from Jay Ward's works. In fact, I'm already trying to develop...
